Fire Procedures

  • In the instance of fire the person who discovers the fire should raise the alarm by breaking the red “break glass” call point situated next to the external doors in reception.
  • Each staff member should evacuate their particular group in the event of fire.
  • The register to be taken by the senior member of staff and used as an indication of children present in the room.
  • The evacuation should take place through the nearest fire exit. Staff should familiarize themselves with the whereabouts of all fire exits
  • Staff and children in the 3yrs-4yrs (Moonbeams) room exit through the external doors into the outdoor play area and should assemble at Woodthorpe school gate. The register should then be taken and the children counted.
  • If fire impedes the exit through either the main exit or the exit in the 3yrs-4yrs (Moonbeams) room then staff and children should evacuate through the fire exit on the lower floor through the external doors leading to the Children’s Centre car park, and then walk up to Woodthorpe school gates where the register will be taken and children counted. (Adult lead and adult tail to ensure the children are safely assembled at the school gate.)
  • The lift must not be used to evacuate to the lower floor.
  • Staff and children in the 2yrs -3yrs room (Sunbeams) exit through the external door leading to the Children Centre car park. Then walk up to the school gates where the register will be taken and children counted (adult lead and adult tail to ensure the children are safely assembled at the school gate.)
  • Staff and children in the 3mths- 2yrs room (Little Stars room) exit through the external door leading to outside. Then walk up to Woodthorpe School gates where the register will be taken and children counted (adult lead and adult tail to ensure the children are safely assembled at the school gate.)
  • The Pre School signing in/out book will be used as an indication of staff present in the building. (The Children’s Centre receptionist will take this book)
  • All staff should report to the Manager once the evacuation has taken place, to ensure that there has been a safe evacuation of all people within all areas.
  • The fire service is automatically contacted. No-one should re enter the building until the fire services have decided that it is safe to do so.
